BTW Spotlight
Beyond the Whistles (BTW) is committed to telling the stories that make swimming matter—stories that go beyond times, rankings, and podium finishes. Swimming is a sport built on perseverance, community, mentorship, and personal growth, and there are countless people and programs making a real impact that rarely get recognized.
The BTW Spotlight is designed to bring attention to those stories.
We highlight new and emerging teams and clubs, particularly those that have been in operation for two years or less, that are building culture, opportunity, and momentum within their communities. We also feature athletes at all levels—not just the fastest—whose journeys reflect the values of the sport, whether that means overcoming adversity, finding confidence, returning from setbacks, or simply showing what commitment looks like day in and day out.
The Spotlight also extends to coaches, officials, volunteers, and swim organizations whose behind-the-scenes work shapes meaningful experiences for athletes and families. These are the people who help swimming thrive long before the starting signal starts.
All Spotlight submissions are reviewed by our team. While we cannot guarantee that every submission will be selected, every nomination is considered. Those chosen for a BTW Spotlight feature will be notified directly so we can start a conversation and learn more about the story behind the nomination.
